Training for the Half and Full Marathon

Informational Training Meeting

When: Wednesday, September 27 at 6:00 p.m.

Where:  Homewood Trak Shak Running Store

Wear your running gear too and join the group on their Wednesday night run. All paces welcome for a 3 or 5 mile run and will begin at 5:30.

Join us at 6 a.m. every Saturday morning begining Saturday, September 30 until race weekend at the Trak Shak in Homewood for free group training supported by the Trak Shak and the Birmingham Track Club (BTC). Runners and walkers of all skill levels are welcome. The group is led by the BTC Long Run Coordinator, Monica Henley assisted by running veterans, Alex Morrow and Jeff Martinez. 

A beginner-level 20 week marathon and 19 week half marathon training schedule is provided with room to build in cross training, speed work, tempo or hills to fit your skill level. We recommend that you be able to complete a 5k or can run 10 miles per week to begin the half marathon training and that you can complete a 10K, or run 15 miles per week to begin the marathon training.

Water and Powerade are provided every 2 - 3 miles by volunteers. Follow the group and receive weekly invitations here. E-mail mhenley1113@gmail.com or Jeff@trakshak.com with any questions.

Mark your calendars for our two Course Preview Runs on Sundays, January 14 & 28.  We'll run one loop of our course with three fluid stations and two GU stops available.  We'll leave from Boutwell Auditorium at 6:30 a.m.  Complimentary coffee, hot chocolate and doughnuts will be served in the lobby at the end of the run. 

Don't forget to register for the Regions SuperHero 5k to shake your legs out the day before the big race. We're offering a mulit race discount if you register for the Regions Superhero 5k and the half/full marathon. Save $10 off your total online registration cost at checkout. We can't wait to see you at the finish line in February!
