If you're not ready to run a marathon or half marathon; don't worry. We have the perfect event for you and your family. The Superhero 5K serves as the official kick-off to an exciting Mercedes-Benz Marathon Weekend and offers everyone with all different fitness abilities the chance to be a part of this exciting weekend. Come walk/run our 5K (3.1 mile) course through downtown Birmingham while helping a great cause and being a part of the marathon experience. See our 5K training plan to learn how you can walk/ run this race even if you are currently a couch potato. And if you're running our races on Sunday please join us for the Superhero 5K to loosen up your legs for your long distant race.

PREMIUM PARTICIPANT AMENITIES AND PACKET PICKUP

All registered race participants will receive the Superhero 5K official race packet including the official Superhero 5K technical running shirt. Race packets, along with race numbers and timing devices, can be picked up during the Expo/Packet Pick Up on Friday, February 15th from 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. The expo will be held at Boutwell Auditorium located at 1930 8th Avenue North in downtown Birmingham. You can register at the Expo as well on Friday, February 15th (registration fee at the Expo and on race day is $40). Race day registration will end PROMPTLY at 7:30 a.m. - so get there early!! To avoid any delays or problems, we highly encourage you to register early and pick up your packets during the expo. Shirts are guaranteed for the first 2,000 registrants.

RUN/WALK POLICY

The Superhero 5K is open to runners and walkers of all abilities. There is no age limit. Minors must have a legal parent or legal guardian sign the entry form to be eligible. Due to insurance regulations, unregistered runners, unauthorized vehicles, baby joggers, inline skates, bicycles, skateboards and other non-official wheeled vehicles are prohibited on the courses. Pets and smoking, including cigars, are also prohibited. Any participant breaking one of these rules will be removed from the course and disqualified. There is a 1 hour time limit on the Superhero 5K.

TIMING

Winners of the Superhero 5K race will be determined by official race timing devices that you will be given with your race packet. Be aware that timing devices are not guaranteed to be available for race day registration, but are not required to participate. Official timing for the Superhero 5K is based on Gun Time for Overall Awards and Chip Time for Age Group Awards. Overall awards will include top three male and female and top male and female master runner. Age group awards are 3 deep in each age group and each gender as follows: 8 & Under, 9-11, 12-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, Female - 70 & Above, Male-70-74 and 75 & Above. The Superhero 5K Awards Ceremony will take place about 9:00 a.m. in Boutwell Auditorium. Keep in mind that we do not mail awards so if you think you’ve won an award you will need to make plans to stick around and pick it up.

If you must, you can print off a registration form from the home page of this web site. Please be aware of the mailing deadlines. If you miss the deadlines you can register at the Expo on February 15th or on race morning from 6 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. at Boutwell Auditorium.
